Not only do they provide care for a diverse community of patients and families\, but their workforce is also growing more diverse. While in that role\, Vyron was responsible for writing\, managing\, and coordinating a wide-ranging portfolio of policies\, programs and processes relating to diversity\, equity and inclusion\, as well as collecting workforce demographic data and analysis. He also served as the principal advisor to the Chief of Staff on workforce strategies\, programs and activities. \nPrior to his latest military assignment\, Vyron served as the Executive Director of Human Resources for the 6th Force Support Squadron here in Tampa\, where he led more than 600 military and civilian Human Resources professionals. Before that\, Vyron held a multitude of leadership positions\, including Senior Director of Human Resources for the 12th Air Force in Arizona\, overseeing investigations and instruction of LEAN concepts to 11 countries in the Caribbean and Central/South America. While stationed in Germany as the Director of Human Resources\, Vyron worked in the 693rd Intelligence\, Surveillance and Reconnaissance organization. \nVyron’s impressive career is decorated with many honors\, including the Tuskegee Airman award\, the NAACP Award\, the Blacks in Government award and several other notable honors. \nVyron earned a Doctor of Business Administration in Leadership from Walden University\, a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Leadership from Capella University. Additionally\, he holds a Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion Certificate from the University of South Florida and has completed the Greenbelt Instructor course. \nVyron is also an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.\, which actively serves the Tampa Bay Area through volunteerism\, fundraising and other activities benefiting local nursing homes\, Veterans Affairs hospitals\, food banks and more. \nPanel Members \nJazleen Vecchiarelli\, Manager of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion for BayCare Health System \nJazleen Vecchiarelli is the Manager of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion for BayCare Health System. She’s been part of the health system for about 10 years. In her role\, she provides strategic direction for enterprise-wide diversity\, equity\, and inclusion efforts for the $4.9 billion organization supporting 30\,000 team members. Jazleen leads the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to support a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Prior to this\, Jazleen was a hospital operations leader managing cross-functional teams committed to achieving results. She holds an MPH in Health Care Organizations and Management from the University of South Florida. \nDr. Shanelle Rae\, Director of Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion for Tampa General Hospital \nShanelle Rae\, Ph.D is a Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion Specialist who focuses on creating and implementing sustainable and balanced organizational infrastructure to create equitable outcomes\, Diverse and Inclusive practices and a sense of well-being for all. \nShanelle earned her Ph.D in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of Miami and currently serves on the Board of Directors at the UM School of Behavioral Sciences. Shanelle is the Director of DEI at TGH and is an associate Professor at USF. \nDr. Desiree Chachula\, Director of Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion for Moffitt Cancer Center \nDesirée Chachula is the Director of Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) at Moffitt Cancer Center. She leads Moffitt’s DEI portfolio that guides workforce and patient equity efforts. Programs and focus within the portfolio include DEI Education & Training\, Employee Engagement Groups\, Diversity Data and Measures\, Inclusion Climate and Culture\, Employee Life-Cycle for Under-Represented Populations\, Supplier Diversity and External Benchmarking and Cultural and Linguistic Competency. \nDesirée combines years of curriculum and instruction teaching and consulting experience with academic training as a social scientist to bring a scientist-practitioner approach to cultural competence and diversity\, equity and inclusion in healthcare. She is an expert on disproportionality the differences of a population group to an outcome based on shared demographic traits. This work sheds light on policies\, practices\, beliefs and biases that perpetuate the marginalization of vulnerable populations. \nDesiree is a Principal Investigator for the Health Equity Train the Trainer initiative which aims to educate care providers throughout Florida how to effectively enact health equity in their professional practice. \nBeyond practice and research\, Desirée has specialized training working with special populations. She is adept on LEP issues as well as a Board Certified Transgender Care Professional. \nPrior to joining Moffitt in 2016\, Desirée held research appointments at the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education as well as at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Desirée was a Reynold’s Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship at Harvard University where she earned her Masters in Language and Literacy. She is a National Science Foundation Fellow in linguistics and has won numerous academic awards including a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Fellowship and a NSF Research Award. Dr. Rafalski is responsible for all planning\, business development\, real estate\, market research\, clinical research\, marketing\, digital strategy\, government relations\, public relations and communications at BayCare Health System. Dr. Rafalski has an extensive background in strategic planning\, data analytics\, decision support\, GIS\, business development\, marketing\, public relations\, group purchasing and managed care contracting. He has also served as an executive liaison for emergency department and children’s hospital operations. After graduating from the University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in public policy studies\, Dr. Rafalski received a master’s degree in public health from Yale University School of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in public health sciences from the Division of Health Policy and Administration at the University of Illinois\, School of Public Health where he has taught as Clinical Assistant Professor. Ed is also a member of the University of South Florida College of Public Health’s Master Health Administration Advisory Board. \nPaul Grossman \nPaul is the founder\, CEO and Chief Experience Officer of PLG ExperienceSolutions\, a consulting and training company that helps healthcare organizations create consistently exceptional experiences for its employees and\, as a result\, their patients. For more than 25 years\, Paul has focused on improving customer experiences. Before starting his own company\, he spent 10 years with Integrated Loyalty Systems as their senior vice president of content and solutions\, designing culture-change programs and training workshops for healthcare organizations around the country\, including Dignity Health\, Ochsner Clinic\, Penn Medicine\, Carson Tahoe Health\, the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington\, DC. In addition to culture change and patient experience journey mapping\, Paul specializes in employee engagement and onboarding programs for healthcare\, having redesigned more that two dozen healthcare orientation programs with the philosophy: “How you treat staff on day one determines how they’ll treat patients… and each other.” Prior to that\, Paul spent eight years as a Disney Castmember\, specifically as a senior manager first with the famed Disney Institute at Walt Disney World\, teaching the Disney Approach to visiting organizations. Then he moved to Disney Event Productions\, ultimately returning to the Disney Institute to become one of its most highly rated trainers and national keynote speakers\, focusing on applying Disney cultural elements to other industries. Paul spent 13 years before Disney with Kaset International/AchieveGlobal\, at the time one of the world’s largest “soft skills” training and consulting companies. There he learned the intricacies of adult learning\, instructional design and organizational consulting. He was the co-author of the industry standard Everybody Has a Customer\, based on the “internal customer service” concept of: “If you’re not taking care of a customer\, you should be taking care of someone who is.” Paul has been both a preceptor and guest speaker at the USF School of Public Health\, is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE)\, currently serving on the Board of the Western Florida Chapter\, is a longtime member of the ACHE Consultant’s Forum\, and received the prestigious ACHE Regent’s Award in 2021. Organizations with environments of civility and respect recruit the best and brightest people\, exude high morale and high job satisfaction by their employees\, and demonstrate high performing teamwork. Unfortunately\,disrespect and incivility at work is rampant in many organizations\, and it’s on the rise. Uncivil behaviors are characteristically rude and discourteous\, displaying a lack of regard for others. There is an organizational price to be paid for uncivil encounters among coworkers. Employees that have experienced or witnessed incivility reduce their commitment to the organization and demonstrate a reduction in work effort. While individual factors may play a major role in contributing to incivility and disrespectful cultures\, the workplace environment is a powerful force that consciously or unconsciously enables acts of incivility\, disrespect and bullying.
